From the first day you get your puppy you will need to implement obedience. I am not saying that if your dog is not a tiny little pup you cannot train it. I am just saying it is never too early to start training your dog. You must however do it properly or you could be training your dog improperly and may be confusing the hell out of your dog.

Once your dog gets confused it makes for a tough challenge to train it. You become frustrated and your dog becomes frustrated. You know when your dog becomes frustrated when it tries to hide away or becomes shy when you approach. You have the dog totally confused and he or she just wants to go to sleep or just stay away from the grumpy owner.

This frustration can even lead to depression on the dog’s part, well maybe even on the owner’s part as well. For the sake of you and your pet canine, seek professional help. That does not necessarily mean you have to bring your dog to an obedience class or send your dog to a professional trainer. There are perfectly good e-books out there that can give you all the advice you need to get your dog or puppy training off on the right foot. These e-books are relatively cheap for the information they have to offer.

Having a disobedient dog can lead to tragedy. Once your canine pet gets out and decides to enjoy his or her freedom, it may end up being a very terrible scene with cars wandering up and down those asphalt paths they call roads.

If you do own a puppy or a full grown dog, seek help from a professional to keep your pet safe. Your time with your dog can be very enjoyable for you and your pet. Remember an e-book is quite inexpensive and you can get all the information you need from a professional to raise your dog to be a very obedient pet and a good friend.

By: Ken Bishop

About the Author:

One thing that every dog must do is come when called. This is for the dogs own good as well as the welfare of other pets and people. Dogs need to be taught this for their own good because they can run into danger, like a car or an untrained animal. Once a dog is trained to come when called, you can take him out in public places.

It is not hard training for dogs to learn how to come when called. Basically, you would give your dog special treats when it listens to you. Training should be enjoyable for both you and your pet.

Before you start this type of dog teach training, make sure the animal is going to react positively to the type of food you will give him. Show the food to the dog and let him smell it. If he likes it, you can start.

Use small size food when dog pet training. You do not want to feed the animal too much where he does not get motivated to want to more food. Chicken and cheese are good to use.

Many professional dog trainers want the dog owner to work with them when they train the dog. This is because the dog must not only listen to one person. They need to understand that anyone who is in charge of them, will need them to listen. If your family member wants to watch the dog, he will have a problem if your pet only listens to you. Have a friend or family member call the dog and then you do the same. Have your dog go back and forth, going from you to your friend. This is a great exercise. Stand about 30 feet away from each other in a safe place. You can call the dog and tell it to sit. Your friend can call the dog after you and then he can give the dog a treat. Every time the dog comes, give him a treat.

Try spreading out further and further away from each other. The dog will eventually have to look for you. It must find you to get the food. This will teach your dog how to come when called.

To make sure your dog is a loyal faithful dog, you can use many ways of training him. All dog training methods are working towards getting respect for the owner from the dog. The goal is in building this relationship between both parties and the right training will focus on this.

One great way of training for dogs is the leash and collar method. There are some other methods that are beneficial but let us focus on this for now.

This type of training for dogs has been in existence for some time now. It has shown how good it works. The best method for your pet will depend on the dog and the breed. Different breeds of dogs have different qualities that they have attained from years and years of breeding.

The same breed might have dogs with varying personalities You should know best which training method is best by your dogs own personality. Use a training system or trainer that you feel will suit your dog best.

When your dog is supposed to be very reliable, leash and collar training is the perfect training method. This type of dog training will be especially useful with police dogs and rescue dogs.

Different levels of forcefulness can be applied in leash and collar training. Even strong pulls to correct the animal. You need to use the right amount of force when pulling the dog as not the right amount for the situation is ineffective.

Teach the dog a certain behavior with the leash on. Use the leash when the dog does not do what it is supposed to correct the dog. The leash is used to communicate to your dog.

Trust is very important when training your dog. Your dog must trust you. You must be able to position your dog in positions he does not want to be in. You will have to get physical sometimes.

All puppies seem to want to bite and all puppies should be taught to change this habit. A lot of characteristics that you find cute in your puppy, such as jumping on you or nibbling on your arm, must be corrected before your dog gets too big.

When a puppy is left in its natural environment, she will learn to control her biting. The reason is if he bites too much, the mother or her siblings will correct your dog. Since puppies are removed from this natural environment, training a puppy is up to you the owner.

Let your puppy play with other puppies so it learns from them what type of behavior is allowed.

There are special classes for puppies sponsored by pet shops called puppy playtime and puppy kindergarten. There your puppy can socialize with other canines and humans. When your puppy plays too rough and bites too much, the other puppies will correct her.

Always try how to train your dog when it is still a puppy. This goes for biting training also. You need to have your dog spend time with other dogs. A dog that does not have the experience of socializing with other dogs can be hard to control and dangerous. Try to socialize your dog in the first 12 weeks of its life. This is according to dog training experts.

The same applies with training for dogs to socialize with people, particularly children. Parents may not want their child exposed to a dog that is older and bigger. It is best to allow your puppy to learn how to behave with children when it is still young and less of a threat.

Letting the puppy be around different things and people is a good idea. Like being around adults of different races, children, other puppies, cats.

Getting your animal to spend time with other dogs and people is important to ensuring that your puppy does not bite. Also, it will help if you provide your pet with toys to bite on. It gives your dog something to do and helps him to not bite things he should not.

Tell your friends and family that you do not want you puppy to bite. If your pet bites one person and they do not scold the animal, then it will be confused and might bite someone else.

A very popular dog training tool is the head collar. A couple of brands of the head collar are the Gentle Leader and the Halti.

Some think that the Gentle Leader is an easier fit compared to the Halti. Also, Gentle Leader is made to be put around the dog’s neck. This design has the advantage that if the dog gets the muzzle off, still it is wearing a collar. It is a safety feature that is important, when training outside. Even so, the Halti gives more control of the dog, and for this it is used when working with dogs that are very aggressive.

There are some instances when dogs are hard to control. For instance, your dog may want to be with other dogs. An effective tool for situations like this is the head collar.

There are some good reasons why you should use head collars instead of just regular training collars. New dog owners might find it easier to use. They can be very good at preventing dogs that tend to pull. If a dog is particularly strong, head collars offer more control of the dog.

Positive reinforcement of the dog and good training principles should go hand in hand with how to train your dog. Dog collars are not intended as a means to train in itself.

There are some draw backs to using head collars. Your dog can become accustomed to the collar and will change the way they act based on the head collar or the regular collar. Also some dogs might try and take it off with their paws. If a dog does this, keep the dog walking until he gets used to it.

Another flaw of using a head collar is that some people see it as a muzzle and this can scare others as they think the dog can bite.

When training with a regular collar or a head collar, follow the proper use as outlined by the company that sells it and use other dog training methods.

Predator animals have a natural instinct to chase. Dogs are natural predators. They will run after people or things. Of course this is inappropriate behavior for a house pet.

Begin training a puppy as early as you can. When the dog is smaller, he is less of a threat and easier to control. This especially is true with breeds that can grow very big or for those breeds that are very aggressive by nature. Joggers or anyone else will be very scared when your dog is chasing them.

Some breeds are easier to train than others. Those dogs that have been raised for hunters or herders might have much more of an instinct to chase than other dogs. Regardless of his breed, do not let the dog outside without the dog training leash until he no longer chases.

Train the dog in an area that is closed and does not have others around. The dog will learn how you want him to behave in this closed safe area. Go over and over the proper behavior in this setting, letting him concentrate on you. The place to do this is in your own home. Put the dog training leash and collar on the dog and then show him a ball. The animal should not touch the ball. Push the ball to the other end of the room and state “off” to tell the animal not to go after it. Pull the chain if your pet decides to go after the ball. The dog should not be allowed to touch the ball. Keep doing this until the dog understands what “off” means. Give him a treat when he does not go after the ball.

Do this technique in another room as well after it is successful in one room. Do this in several rooms. After the dog understands the command, try this without the leash in a safe area still.

Finally get a friend that the dog does not recognize to jog by the dog. Use the off exercise and give a treat to the animal when he does not go after your friend.

The best time to teach your dog how to behave is when it is a pup. It is a priority when the dog is young to teach it proper manners. Training a puppy is to teach it what is considered proper behavior and what is not.

The earlier you learn how to train your dog, the better the chances that your dog will understand and obey. They can learn relatively fast. When you interact with your dog, you are showing your dog something, so teaching the right manners is up to you.

Not only is training beneficial to the dog, it is also helpful to people. A canine that is not trained can be more dangerous than one that is trained. You are responsible for this.

It has been said that dogs are mans best friend and this friendship goes back many hundreds of years as dogs have been domesticated for a very long time. They have been trained probably earlier than any other animal.

How dogs act in the wild is necessary to understand when dealing with your dog. Animals have a lead animal when in packs. This main dog or Alpha dog provides guidance to the other dogs in hunting and survival areas for the pack.

In training for dogs, you are the dogs pack leader. You will be the “Alpha Dog”. Your dog should perceive you as the leader of its pack in order to gain its respect. When you gain this respect and trust from your dog, that is when you’re training will start working. Instead of your dog being fearful of you, having him trust you will cause him to be more comfortable around you and better able be trained.

If your dog is scared of you, he is less likely to be trained properly. Don’t punish the dog when he does something wrong. It is better to just reward him when he is good. Let him decide what to do and then reward him when he does the right thing.

Ask your buddy to jog and if the dog sits still, reward him. If not start over. It will learn going after a jogger is not the right thing to do.

I hope you’re ready to enjoy a fun experience. To become a team, you and your puppy will have to learn a few of the basic skills. Your puppy will have to be molded into the type of dog that you want him to become. An important step to bring peace into your house is to begin training your puppy.

Help for Training Your Puppy

The Reward System

The reward system is the most positive method of training. Finding the right treat for you puppy should be fairly simple. One treat that has worked well for many top trainers is little cut up pieces of hot dogs. A lot of praise and love is another reward that should be freely given. In order for it to stay fun for you and your puppy, stay upbeat and positive.

The Training

Your puppy will learn to sit, down and heel as these are three basic commands. Once your puppy learns these commands you will have much better control over him. When you have a well trained puppy, socializing him to different situations will become much easier. The attention span of a puppy is not very long so keep the training sessions to around 10 to 15 minutes. As the puppy learns and grows, the training sessions can get a little longer.

Help for Training Your Puppy

Leash Training

With the leash in one hand and a treat in the other, you are ready to begin with the leash training. In an upbeat voice, say the puppies name and give the heel command. As your puppy is walking beside you, begin giving him the food and lots of encouragement. If the puppy should stop, just continue to hold the treat in front of him and gently tug the leash. The puppy will eventually become accustomed to the leash and collar.

Teaching The Sit

The best way to get a puppy to sit is to hold the treat in front of his nose and then gently lift it over his head. Every time you practice this, use the word sit. Whether you are watching TV or doing dishes, the sit is one of the things that can be taught right then and there.

The Down

While the pup is in the sit position, slowly lower the treat and then bring it forward. When you begin to lower the food down, always give the down command.

Patience and consistency will be required to train your puppy. Whether they pick it up pretty fast or if things seem to be going a little slow, just keep on going. What we’re after is for the puppy to do these things with all verbal commands. Results will show up and it won’t seem like it took that long. All will be well when the puppy is trained.
