LadyD asked:
We just adopted a GSD from a rescue and the day we brought her home we noticed that she was spotting. We want to get her spayed as soon as possible but I have read that it is better to wait until her cycle is finished. How long has your GSD spotted for? And what are the pros and cons of not waiting to get her spayed while she is in heat?

My wife and I recently rescued a Havanese puppy, but we think it may actually be a Tibetan Terrier. How can we tell the difference?

Brutal Baby asked: Together, Half Half. So it belongs to the both of us and is like our little baby. But the problem is we live in the inland empire in California. We need to know of the best places we can buy a puppy, or rescue one. In the Riverside area, or the sandiego area and all in between.
Know of any good places?
New Mom asked: My husband rescued a German Shepherd from a shelter over four years ago. We estimate him to be 9 years old. Over the past year and a half, he has had issues from time to time about sleeping through the night. The past week this has gotten even worse, as this is the sixth night in a row he has not slept all night. He whines, barks, walks around, paws and refuses to let us sleep. Both of us work, and we cannot take the sleep deprivation any more. We have been to the vet, but the vet has not found anything wrong with the dog.
Usually, he is perfectly fine until we get into bed and turn off the lights. Then he starts a bit of whining and then works himself up into a frenzy.
We are seriously at the end of our rope. Does anyone have any advice?
Thank you very much in advance.

I am trying to pick out a German Shepherd from a local rescue group or breeder but I am not sure what color to choose. That’s because I have read before that white Shepherds are more difficult than other shepherds. I also heard that black Shepherds are easier to train.
I have loved German Shepherds since I was in the 3rd grade and I have read every book I could find on caring for them and such. I have read a few that have said that the color might affect how smart the dog is. I was not sure if it was true or not about some Shepherds. The reason why some books probably said this this was because they can be deaf. Thank you all for your help and it will definitely help me in choosing the right GSD puppy for me.

~ Rescued Dogs Rule ~ asked: I am fostering a dog right now from a local shelter, which we will most likely keep for good. This is dog number 6 and the cut-off, seriously. They are ALL taken very good care of. They actually live better than most humans I know. Just kidding. Its kind of a sad story and sets precedence to my question. He is an 8-9 year old yorkie rescued from a puppy mill is birmingham, alabama. His eyes have been completely removed due to past neglect. The pads of his feet have turned into mush basically, from being in a wire bottom kennel for 8 years. His legs, tail and anywhere you can feel muscle are the same. He is hunched a little, probably used to laying down all the time. However, his little spirit is absolutely AMAZING. He is so happy go lucky and seems to roll with what life has dealt him. He has been with me for 3 days and has lightened my life so much, so fast. My other dogs have been great, and he is not bothered by them. I have had one blind dog before but it has been a while and he was 15, so he hardly moved around much. I have the patience, time and love to take care of this little guy Stevie (aptly named) I just need a little advice. I would like any suggestions about caring for a blind dog. I know the obvious, dont move furniture etc…. What I mean is how to entertain him, any tips about day to day activities. He seems to want to roam right now and I am letting him famliarize himself with the house, however and I am trying to keep him in one room. He sits still when you hold him, but seems to pant a lot and walk the floor if you put him down. I assume this is nerves and he is in a new place, but I am slowly introducing him to the house. If anyone has any tips, advice or experience please share……each little bit helps. Thanks so much!

Deb D asked: Hi,
I just adopted a rescue and she has really big *******. She is part schnauzer and part terrier. Could this be because she was pregnant at one time, or because she was not spayed until she was 1.5 years old? She was abandoned so the agency did not know too much about her.
Thanks!

Our beloved Australian cattle dog died suddenly last weekend of what the vet called an acute cardiac event my husband and I are lost without her and have the opportunity to rescue a puppy that we both really want. Does this sound insane? We both love dogs and think we can make it work, but this is a first child and we really don’t know what we are in for. Can anyone offer some advice?

If anyone remembers me, I was the one who questioned if I should adopt a needy shepherd from the humane society because I was concerned about her getting along with my older shi-tzu. Well I did! and I was so happy, they got along great. She fit right in, the moment she came in the door, eating, drinking, playing. The next day she threw up and had diarrhea. She has had all her shots, parvo, heartworm, etc. She just wasn’t the same dog, looked so sad. Rushed her to my vet where he said she was dehydrated. Gave her some shot to help it and nausea medicine. I took her off dog food and gave her boiled chicken and rice, plenty of water. She wants NOTHING. The vet took blood work, waiting for tomorrow. I am so scared she is deathly ill. I am so in love with her, fought through other adoptions pending to get her and NOW THIS? I’m already in debt $300 for the first vet bill. Here I thought I was doing good, and now I am so afraid. I slept with her on the floor last night. Any suggestions
