All of my dogs are on a raw meat diet and i do give them pork it is totally fine

Wow. I’ve never heard that. There’s alot of things that dogs can’t eat, but I’m pretty sure I’ve never heard of that on the list. Make sure that the dog stays away from grapes, chips, onions… stuff like that. :) Sorry I couldn’t be of help about the pork thing!

  • Emma W

    I have never heard that!!!!
    I don’t think its true.

Products designed for dogs and made from pigs, such as bacon treats and pig ears, are safe for dogs. However, actual human-grade pork such as pork chops and sausage should not be fed, as it is very fatty and greasy and serves no nutritive value. Also, raw pork should never be fed because it carries bacteria and viruses that dogs cannot process safely.

    Not true, jiggalling = twat

    the rumour is absolute rubbish!
i had many dogs and fed them all on scraps and home cooked food that included bacon and gammon and it did them no harm.
as long as it isn’t too fatty its ok to give a dog pork.
my mini schnauzer absolutely loves bacon, but i only give it to him as a treat as pork is more fattening than other meats.
    hope this helps!

Try keeping my dog away from pork, in any form. No problems at all. Not sure how this rumour came about but it is complete rubbish. As you note, several treats for dogs are specifically made from pork products.

The pork treats aren’t too bad. But you shouldn’t really feed your dog pork products.. It’s very hard on the body.. A little piece of bacon, a piece of sausage now and then isn’t going to kill him but generally it’s a good idea to stay away from it.

Dogs can eat pork BUT… you have to be careful with it, bacon is not good to much salt, sausage swells in the stomach and can cause a bloat/blockage if you want to know more about dog feeding etc visit my blog.

Yes dogs can eat pork!! What you cant feed them is pork BONES! They splinter when the dog chews them which can cause all sorts of vet bill related problems!! Basically a dog can eat anything designed for dogs or what you eat!! If you give them a bone, give them a raw (not boiled – it weakens it) beef or lamb bone….keeps them entertained for days!!

Dogs can eat pork, it’s just occasionally some dogs may be a little loose after. Give it a try and you’ll soon find out. Both my dogs were rescue dogs and they are both fine with all meat. The only thing I have to be careful giving them is liver because too much of that gives them the trots. You could always ask at the rescue centre if they’ve noticed anything that it has an adverse reaction to. Other than that, just a little at a time and trial and error.
Well done to your brother and I hope you all enjoy your new addition. Good Luck. x

The only two things that i am aware of that dogs can’t eat is chocolate and onions. You can ask your veterinary and he will confirm this.

If you feed him pork you just have to make sure it is cooked properly as pork has the potential for worms in it, also the reason people aren’t supposed to eat pink pork.

Unless its a Jewish dog, of course it can eat pork, and bacon and sausages as treats but do give it as its main diet dog food because this has all the vitamins etc that he will need to keep him healthy.

    Someone is winding you up.
Dogs shouldn’t eat potatoes, grapes, chocolate,
Garlic and onions both contain a substance called alum which can have neurological effects on dogs including leading to seizures and problems walking.
other foods that are poisonous to dogs are:
    walnuts and macademia nuts
    raw liver
Tea, coffee and cola type drinks (same poison as chocolate)
    grapes raisins and sultanas
pear pips, apple pips, kernels of plums, peaches etc
    turkey skin
    raw fish especially salmon
    some mushrooms
cat food can cause metabolic imbalances
milk and other diary products – dogs are lactose intolerant
    raw eggs
    potato, rhubarb and tomato leaves/stems
    yeast dough
    citrus oil
    vitamin supplements containing iron.

    Ive seen it.

Many dogs are fine but a few dogs will have serious problems that require quick action to a vet.

Even though the pork names snausages / bacon strips sound better its usually beef flavored.

Pork in itself is as harmless to dogs as chicken, beef or any other meat. However, there is a slight risk of your dog being infected with trichinosis by eating pork. Trichinosis, also known as trichinellosis, is a worldwide, food borne disease caused by an intestinal roundworm, uncommon in the United States. Both humans and pets who eat raw or undercooked meat of infected animals can develop the disease. Undercooked or raw meat of infected animals contains the roundworm. The disease can lead to muscle soreness and pain together with swelling of the upper eyelids in mild cases but can lead to more severe symptoms.

If you would like to feed pork but want to take all necessary precautions, it is recommended that the pork be frozen for 3 weeks to kill the parasite. The most important precaution is to make sure that all fresh pork and pork products are properly cooked. Other raw and undercooked meat should also be avoided, especially meat from wild animals.

I agree with Alyssa. My fiance has raised dogs, and he says you never feed them pork.

  • simon n

yes pork is ok, but it can be a bit rich for delicate tums, the reason you dont see pork dog food in the supermarket is because they more or less use everything from the pig apart from the oink! so there isnt much left to make dog food out of, Mine happily tuck in to left over sausage, and have pigs ears for treats too, we raw feed and they love spare ribs.

  • smurf

Feeding your dog dog-treats in moderation is okay..it’s daily food should be a good quality dry kibble. DO NOT give it human food.

  • The Lilac Pilgrim

Dogs can be fed pork. The rumour probably stems from the fact that undercooked pork can give dogs diseases, the main doggy disease here being trichinosis, caused by a roundworm. Of course if you cook your meat thouroughly, which you should, a bit of pork now and then should do the dog no harm.
