If im not allowed to get a dog then would a cat be better?

dog rescue
Bethany N asked:

I really want a dog but my parents don’t really want to because of financial reasons. I already have 2 cats, instead of getting a dog would rescuing a cat from a centre be a better idea. My cats are easy going and i dont think they would mind. I really love animals and would like another one.

    The more people like you, that want to rescue a Cat, the better.
    We have rescued 6 Cats so far, and would highly recommend it.
    Good for you, in even thinking about rescuing another, go for it.
    A Cat would be better as you already have 2, a Dog may not fit in.

    If your parents have a financial reason re: the dog, consider that they may not have the resources to help with a cat either. Consider spending extra time with the two pets you have! Its easy to want more in life, but easier to forget what we have already.

    if you think your cats wont mind bringing in another cat then go right ahead. definitely rescue your cat because you are doing your part in saving an animals life.

    The RSPCA estimates that the average dog costs its owner £5,664 over a 12-year life. Add on annual vet fees, insurance, bedding and the odd choccy treat and that sum rises to a few quid shy of £10,000, or £833 a year. About the price of a small family hatchback.
    The RSPCA reckons the cost of a moggy over 14 years – the average life span – is £9,450 (£675 a year). The cost goes up by 5% each year.

    as I said before the cost is a big issue when taking on a pet. As you can see cat’s are not much cheaper than dogs each year.
    Plus cats live longer ( plenty of cats reach the ripe old age of 20+ )
    If you have two cats already can you not just love them instead, get odd jobs to help your folks out with the cost of keeping the pets you do have?

    If financial reason is the main issue, I doubt getting a cat would be better. As much as I love it when people are trying to rescue and adopt a cat from the shelter, caring for a cat is never easy or cheaper. You really have to think hard and be sure that your household can afford another cat.

    I know you love animals and if that is the case, you can always do volunteer work at the shelter. Remember, animals in the shelter need as much love too and shelters are always in need of more help. When you help out in a shelter, you not only get to work with animals, but you can also get a lot of information and knowledge on how to better take care of your two cats.

    It’s obvious you like cats! I like dogs but cats do seem the better pet bcause they’re more independent! {Plus they’re cheaper!}

    a cat would be better coz they are more independent than dogs as you will allready no,getting one from the rescue centre would be very good plus you can choose the age that you would like. we have had dogs in the past, but now we have two cats that we got from the RSPCA and we wouldn’t be with out them,so if you want another cat and you think your two will be ok, then go for it. good luck
