how much would a tri-colour pedigree cavalier puppy cost?

puppy rescue
Sophie asked:

I have recently got a tri-colour pedigree cavalier from a rescue shelter luckily, i found her and fell in love. I doubt i will but if i ever breed her in the future [i would keep one puppy and sell them to people i could trust] how much on average would a pedigree tri-colour cavalier puppy go for?
thanks (:

I cannot believe that you rescued a dog and they are not requiring you to spay her.

Add: Regardless, you shouldn’t breed her unless you have ALL her papers, know her genetic background, and have shown and health tested HER and breeder her with a male with the same credentials.
Otherwise, you have made the fact that you adopted pointless. You would just be adding to overpopulation by breeding a pet-quality dog.

that’s odd …. what shelter did you get her from? … most shelters will spay/neuter all animals adopted out.

congratulations on your new friend though ^^ – she sounds beautiful :)

sorry though – lol i have no clue about pedigree breed costs :P

    good luck with everything ^_^

I have a tri boy and he cost £300 that was 18mths ago. why not browse some pet websites or just look for a stud dog, the owner normally ask for either 1 pup or the cost of 1 pup as payment for lending him out.
normally rescue shelters get the animals neutered.
    cav are the best :D

Since you got her from a shelter, you should realize that dogs need to be spayed neutered. As much as I love dogs, I do not agree with breeding selling dogs – there are so many mixed breeds that are intelligent, loving dogs need homes – please have your dog spayed and do not breed her for profit. Also, what kind of shelter does not require you to spay or neuter your pet you get from them? Did you not have to sign an agreement that you would spay the dog?

Anybody who would be asking questions about dog breeding on Yahoo! Answers is probably not the sort of person who should be breeding their dog in the first place. Just the same as if someone were to come here and ask how to perform dental surgery or how to balance the HVAC system in an office building.

Get your dog spayed, don’t worry about breeding her.

If your dog came from a shelter, presumably you have no idea about her pedigree, her health history or her health status. CKCS suffer from a number of hereditary health conditions and no responsible breeder would consider breeding without having a number of health tests done (not just vet checked). These tests don’t come cheap, add to that the stud fee, vet bills puppy costs and it will cost you more than you get for the puppies which, as you won’t have your b1tch’s KC registration are worth no more than any crossbred puppy.

In order for a dog to be responsably breed it needs to be papered, it need it’s championship, it needs genetic testing against defects, the mate needs to meet these requirements, and the owner needs to find a mentor to help walk them through all of these processes and make sure everything is done correctly. Then and only then should the dog breed. At this point between tests, vet bills, show expenses, and everyday care you will have spent at least a few grand, sometimes up into the tens of thousands. Double if you own the male, otherwise a hefty stud fee. plus extra money to vet check, feed, worm, and start vaccinations for the pups. The puppies are then sold (to approved homes only)for 1000. Or more, but even at that price most breeders are lucky if they break even. They breed because the love the breed and want to make the best possible specimens not because they want money. Also good breeders have contracts that prohibit buyers from ever turning the dog into a shelter instead they will take a pup back no matter what. So if you are considering breeding first ask your self, do I have a few grand to spare, do I have the time to show her for her championship or the money to pay a handler, can she earn her championship, do I have a mentor, have I learned enough about the breed and breeding, am I preparred to own all the puppies should the need arise and can I afford to feed them all and vet them all. If just one answer is no spay her. You will still have a great companion I’m actually shocked that if you rescued her she isn’t spayed. Most rescues either alter themselves or require a signed contract stating it will be done.

I wont mater if your dog had a puppy that was rare and had 5 colors, with out registration papers it is worth nothing. It would only be worth the cost of the first vet Visit and a part of mother getting spayed. Lets just say $100.00 would be plenty to charge for a non- registered dog.

Since you don’t have papers to prove her pedigree thus no titles to prove her worth, I’d say at the most $500. Keep in mind you won’t make any profit off selling those pups. So its best not to breed your dog at all.
