Ask around your friends or neighbourhood for nice, calm, tolerant dogs. If you know they are good and he is ok if he gets to meet them, then your job is to relax. If he feels you getting tense (that lead is like a connection between you both, he will feel your fear) he will react as he believes there is actually something to be worried about. ONLY socialise him with those few dogs that you have asked people about. Go for a walk with the other dog and their owner and everytime he interacts nicely, praise him. It may sound crazy but if you have around 4-5 other dogs that are good with dogs, just let him go with them - he is worried about other dogs and his aggression is fear-related, however if they are calm and not threatening him, he wont take on more than one other dog!! PM me and let me know where abouts you are, if you are nearby, pop down to my work and Ill help you work with him with my dog.

It sounds like he is very insecure, and his aggression is stemming from that.

I recomend that you socialize him,to get him more comfortable with others.

You could also buy a muzzel, and have him where it, until he becomes more social.

Hope this, helps and Good Luck!

Well it sounds like he's very insecure. He seems to be aggressive because he's fearful. That makes sense if he's been abused. Have people greet him the way he's comfortable. As for other dogs, have them greet on leashes only, that way they are more easily separated if they begin to be aggressive.
Good luck...
