Yes people have the right to choose. I choose not to support breeders when homeless dogs are being destroyed.

Definitely rescue. People will have bad experiences with dogs from rescues and breeders. So many people buy a pup and then end up with a dog with behavioural problems when their adults. At least if you go to a good rescue you know exactly what your getting when you take on an assessed adult dog.

If breeders really cared they'd spend all their time saving their chosen breed from being destroyed cause they can't find homes instead of adding more dogs to the crisis.

I wouldn't dream of supporting a breeder when there are so many dogs in rescue to choose from.

How can breeding more dogs be seen as acceptable when ones without homes are being killed everyday

Every puppy is a potential rescue dog.
If someone has young children I would never advise getting a rescue where you don't know the dog's history and what bad experiences it may have had in the past. All rescue dogs are not angels, those that end up in rescue are those bred by people who have not bothered with health tests or worried about temperament before breeding. Not the dog's fault obviously but rescue dogs need special care and not everyone is equipped to provide that.
I won't apologise for buying my purebred dogs from knowledgable, responsible breeders! At the same time I have nothing but admiration for those who do provide stable homes for rescue dogs and try to sort out their problems.

of course you have the right to choose a dog which fits into your lifestyle and family and no one has the right to make you feel guilty.

I have seen some lovely dobermanns in rescue though and I am sure that you would have been able to give one of these a wonderful home.

my friend also had a first cross dobe who was the most wonderful dog he had all the qualities of the breed but obviously looked like a cross (but still mistaken by people not as familiar to the breed as a dobe)

Sometimes you have to search for the rescue dog of a specific breed

As a dobermann lover I am sure you would find it hard not to give one who ended up in rescue through no fault of its own a home if your circumstances permitted.

People should seriously consider what breed they are taking on as when they do not it ends up in rescue or worse and these dogs deserve a second chance.

when somebody dies unexpectedly and there is no one to care for the dog it may end up in rescue or if someone became seriously ill and could not care for their dog.

Dobermann rescue have dobes needing good homes and there are some in other rescue centres

and there are so many people who breed with the sole intention of making money they do not know anything about dogs and they do not care about dogs

hearing dogs for deaf people and other assistance dogs have often come from rescue organisations these dogs have to be 100 per cent reliable

Lots of Dobies end up in rescue. Many of them are wonderful dogs with lovely temperaments. Some good with kids, other dogs, kids etc.

While so many dogs are being killed because they can't find a home, I believe it is wrong to support the breeding of more.

The term reputable breeder gets thrown around. How many breeders out there are ethical, they might be considered reputable. but there's a big difference between reputable and ethical.

What a breeder says they do isn't always the same thing in reality.

I believe that a reputable breeder, a breed rescue group, and an animal shelter are all acceptable places to get a dog.

Different people are looking for different qualities in a dog. Some just want a pet, some want a dog for conformation showing, some want a dog with working ability, some want a certain set of characteristics all found within a certain breed of dog, etc.. Depending on what the person wants, a breeder may be a better choice than a rescue group.

I see nothing wrong with buying a purebred dog from a reputable breeder. It's personal choice, and rescue/shelter dogs aren't for everyone. No one has the right to point fingers and call a person bad for not adopting, but I do see it alot on here..
I've adopted before, then when I had the room and time, I bought two pure bred collies. Why? because they are my dream dogs, and fit my life style to a T.
Do I feel guilty because two shelter dogs may have died because of my decision? Nope..put the blame where it belongs..on the idiot owners who allow their dogs to breed...

Rescuing is saving a life, but on the other hand, you want to pick the dog.
If you can rescue please do so! but if you want a pedigree dog, of course its your choice, i looked at the shelters, i feel sorry for all the dogs, but none of them matched me. so i bought my dog from a breeder.
Check your pound/shelter first if you can't find any thats for you then go for the breeder option.

I totally agree. If I were to get a dog now I PERSONALLY would get a rescue pup but in the future when I have children we are going to get a Labrador puppy from a reputable breeder. Rescue dogs are not right for everyone. You should get the dog that's perfect for you, and dobes are such lovely dogs. On YA people who would like pedigree cats and dogs seem to be the devil personified, this is wrong. Everyone should have the right to choose either a pedigree of rescue without being made to feel guilty x x x

ADD I will say I am totally against 'backyard' breeders. People who breed for the money not for the love of the breed. I am also against all these 'teacup' and 'designer' dogs like labradoodles, maltipoos etc.
