I would also consider a rescue a dog!
Hello….I stated UK!!!!
Thank you tejas_yuki JML for your very insightive, helpful answers…and for actually reading the question before answering!!!

the American kennel club
American kenel it really works….Good Luck hope it works for you
Well a Pug is not a Terrier, so looking by using that name you eliminated all chances of finding a reputable breeder.
Try just looking for Pug and you might do better.
Since you live in the UK searching AKC isn’t going to do you much good. But the Kennel Club (England) would be a good place to start. From there you should be able to link to the Pug parent club in England.
A rescue dog is a great choice, as you are not supporting the breeder whom, 9 out of 10 times is a BYB. Things to look for and questions to ask:
**Ask to see sire and dam of the litter, if possible, and assess their temperament. If either is overprotective or very fearful, head for the door.
**Ask about the genetic diseases that affect the breed
**Ask about the contract and the guarantee and for names of previous puppy buyers as references
**Ask to see the pedigrees of sire and dam
**Ask for the OFA ratings on the sire and dam
**Will you help us pick the right puppy for our needs?
**Are your breeding animals registered with the OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals) Hip Dysplasia Registry?
**What are their registration numbers?
**Are your breeding animals certified free of PRA and other eye diseases?
**Do you guarantee the hips and eyes of the puppies?
**What are your terms if the puppy does develop genetic problems?
**Can we visit the parents of the litter?
**Will you give us the names of other puppy buyers?
**Do you require that pet puppies be spayed or neutered?
**Will the puppies have their first shots?
A**t what age do you place puppies? (Puppies should stay with Mom and siblings for at least seven weeks.)
Expect the breeder to ask MANY questions to be sure the placement / adoption is right for BOTH you and the puppy/dog. This goes for a breeder OR a rescue. Breeders and rescues will never let an animal go with just anyone. It must be a good fit for both of you. With their knowledge, they will know if you are right for this breed or particular pet by asking many questions. Don’t be offended when they ask for a vet reference, income, family questions including children or even possibility of divorce.
BUT, rescuing is a GREAT idea!! Save a dog and give him a great home, that’s the best!
Check with a local veterinarian, he should be able to tell you of a reputable breeder.
ask for papers and its good if both parents are on premises!
