Why does my dog run off when he sees other people in the park?

dog rescue
Naomi G asked:

We have had the dog for about 3 months now and we got him from a dog rescue place. hes around 2 yrs old.
We let him off his leader in the park and hes fine, he always comes back when we call him. However, whenever some people pass us he then waits a few minutes and turns round and bolts after them. He will then just stand with the people and we have to run after him and get him back. Why does he do this? How can we stop it?

Either he recognizes them or they remind him of people who were fond of him, perhaps?

He is just being a normal sticky beak. Mylo does that, he chases them, gives them a good sniff and bolts back.

good on you for taking in a rescue

you need to take him back to basic training get a long training lead use that to practice recall training evan though hes usaully ok off lead still needs to listen to you at the end of the day recall could safe his life

he doesnt understand why he cant be with them aswel as you. and when you chase him to go and gt him he thinks you are playing. try to avoid goin to get him. take out a fair amount of ham or something he really likes and wave it around for him to come bak and when he gets to you giv it to him. it might take a while for hi to come back but he should do. you may have to meet him half the way for a while if he is stubborn..hope i helpd . maybe even buy one of them extendable leads for a while to help with the recal xx
