Rescuing a dog from a different area? Help please?

dog rescue
asked:

I have fell in love with a dog who is in a rescue centre in Liverpool, his needs are what I can help him with. Originally I was going to go to a breeder and then I came across this little fella, if I contact the kennel will they tell me it is not possible to adopt him because I am so far away? (In Newcastle) as I think they do home visits first

So does anyone know where I stand with this?

Thanks.

Did you contact the rescue group? Some will arrange transports and meet you halfway (or more or less, depending on who they can get to volunteer).

In some cases, the rescue group may not deem a home visit necessary. If they still do require the home visit, they may know of a rescue group close to you that they trust to come and do the home visit for you.

Make sure to tell them that you can help the dog first, so they don’t automatically assume that you are too far away. Then bring up the problem about your home, but make it seem as if you haven’t dwelled too much on it, just keep confident about that dog. Trust me, it should work.

Contact them. That is the best way to be sure. Every place is different. They may be satisfied enough by talking with friends, family, neighbors, and seeing pictures of your house instead of a home visit. They may even need to see that you can care for the dog financially. You should be able to go see the dog first as well.

Just show them that you are serious. There are many dogs that need homes so they should work with you. If not, look at other rescues and such.

They can arrange for a rescue nearer to you to do the home check for them.

If they are the RSPCA then it won’t be a problem.
If it is another rescue then they can ask another organisation to do the check.

Show them how much you would like to help this dog.

If you have a dog already they will sometimes get a reference from your vet instead of a house check.

If not, then speak to the rescue centre and see what they can do for you.

Their main priority is rehoming dogs with responsible people so that they can free up room for other dogs that need rehoming. They will be more than happy to know that you would love this dog and I’m sure they will do everything they can for you (there may be other rescue centres in your area and someone from that branch can visit you at home).

You could offer to pay the petrol costs if someone needs to travel over from Liverpool?

Give them a call today! I hope you get him. xx
