It could be a lab, but just a poorly bred one. If it was just a little bit of white, then yes it’s probably purebred. If it was a large patch, then there was some other breed snuck somewhere in his pedigree. A well bred black lab should be solid inky black.

    it could be a cross……

as for hidrnick or wot ever take a pill mate..

more than likely its a mix

I know a black lab that has papers and everything, but has little white on her toes. It depends on how much white there is.

It could be a poorly bred Lab or have a mix somewhere in the breeding lines. By AKC standards it would not be acceptable, but if you do not plan on showing or breeding it would not be a problem. Are the parents on the property? Or can the breeder show you the dam and sire?

It is a lab, but not one that should be sold at full price, because him/her would be disqualified in the show ring. It’s definitely possible, but I wouldn’t buy it, unless they sold it at lower price. Really, though, always make sure the dog has a good temperament before looking at how they look. ;)

This is from the AKC standard: A small white spot on the chest is permissible, but not desirable.

Are you considering buying this puppy? If so, have you researched how to pick a breeder?

Do they show or compete the parents?

How many generations of dogs are titled?

Did they do all the proper tests? OFA? CERF?

What was the goal of the breeding? To make more pups? Or, to try and create the perfect lab?
has a whole bunch of stuff that you should read. Yes, even if you just want a pet puppy. There is no excuse to buy from a bad breeder – it just leads to problems.

no it is not a lab my akita cross german shepard mated with a lab cross (yes i no what your all thinking) and she gave birth to dogs that looked exactly like black labs but they had white marking on there chests …so i doubt it is a lab as pure breds are only all one colour.
