For the day? I think they would get a kick out of it unless you make them race again, but they love running.

Is he going to race or watch?

Depends upon how the dog feels about its past experience on the track. Dogs have feeling to. And they remember everything.

no it was retired for a reason, if this dog hasnt been constantly trained to still race then it could injure itself and it is not worth it, it had its racing life, now just let the dog enjoy a normal race free life.

There are special fun races for retired racer pet greyhounds. Other sighthounds are allowed to enter, too. There is a track which the dogs run on, chasing a plastic bag on a string. It’s lots of fun. Try to find out more at dogchannel.com or dog fancy online.

Impossible. Once a racer is retired, he stays retired, they can’t be raced again. They’re retired for a reason, you know. And records are scrupulously kept.

NO WAY! I don’t believe in dog and horse racing anyway, but to put him backing into racing after he’s retired, even if it is just a day, would be cruel.

Why can’t you just let him run around in a big space…

It can’t be done because once retired they are exactly that, retired BUT i am sure he would love the chance to run again, not in a race but just to stretch his legs.

retired means retired his racing days are over

it depends how the dog was treated on the track as soemtimes after racing careers greyhounds get abandoned so it could traumatise him. Id take him up there see what he thinks if he looks vervy and scared forget it but if hes eager to go let him do a short run (dont want to damage his muscles etc especially after hes retired also i knowthis sounds stupid but make sure he warms up first ie walk him up and down a bit etc)

When a Greyhound is turned over to a rescue group to be re-homed, they are spayed or neutered before being placed in a new home. The owners sign a blue slip that cancels their ability to race and the dog is issued pet papers.

With all dogs tattooed for identification, there is no way you could slip a retired racer back into active racing on the track.

If you want to watch a retired racer run, they do have fun runs at many Greyhound events and you can Lure course a retired Greyhound too.
