bemusedconfused asked:
we had a rescue puppy, we have had her for 2 months. she is well fed if not spoilt, but everytime i change my 2 yr old daughter’s pooey nappie, the dog tries to eat it. if i’m not quick enough she actually does eat it. she has tinned and dry food as well as bits of food my daughter sneaks her and also treats so why is she eating poo?

because it’s a DOG.
Most dogs do that. It is their way of learning about other dogs or humans in your case. And plus most dogs just like the taste of it. I know that it sounds disgusting but it is perfectly natural.
Maybe she thinks it’s tinned food. Dog’s tinned food and poo look a bit similar lol. I guess just change him in a different room and keep the door shut so she can’t get in.
My suggestion would be to keep your dog out of the room while you are changing diapers, and make sure you throw the diapers away where the dog can’t get to them.
Dogs are just gross sometimes. My old dog used to do the same thing with my sons diapers! One time we left the house and he actually got in the trash and ate the whole diaper, **** included! It was so gross. At the time I didn’t even think about the absorbent gel inside the diapers so when he went to **** it looked like he was pooping out Styrofoam! Gross! Sometimes our dogs are just odd!
dogs tend to eat poo, i think it may be a leftover survival tactic. You know, covering up the smell.
Alot of dog’s do that. I’ss their way of smelling other dogs.
Because she can smell something in the poo that she likes! The only solution here is to whip that nappy up asap ha ha and put it in the bin outside or she’ll become a bin raider! If its any consolation my yorkie eats the cat poo then gets all offended when you don’t want to give him a kiss! Dogs eh?!!!!
If she was a mill puppy, she may have been trained by her mother to eat *****. There are many other reasons dogs do this habit, such as the appeal of the fecal matter. I’m sure your toddler eats healthy foods, and as the saying goes what goes in, must come out!
maybe the pooey nappie makes your dog think about his tinned food, and its better… Change your kid away from the dog, and throw the diapers away..
My dog does the same thing, and my dog is 6-7 yrs old, some times I don’t’ get a chance to throw out my daughter’s poopie diaper, and shred’s the diaper all over the place. Don’t know why, but they do. Next time you see her going for it, or catch your dog eating it, tell her NO! and just try to remember to keep it out of her reach. Believe me I never win, when I forget. (PS my dog likes to eat cat poo too! and I can’t understand that either!)
Its processed food. Our dog used to do and my friends dog does it too and shes a border collie. Its normal I think
ALL DOGS EAT POO!!!! (Just like they all go to heaven) It is not limited to your daughters poo but also cat poo and in some cases their own poo. Usually it is due to the fact that our bodies do not utilize all of the protein we consume and some of it is passed in our stool. Dogs can smell it.
Your dog’s behaviour has nothing to do with being hungry. Females with pups lick the pups’ bottom to stimulate them to poo and to clean them up. This dog is being stimulated by the smell of your daughters pooey nappie.
My Border Collie used to eat her own poo untill she was about 1 1/2. It’s because they are scared they will get a row for doing it where they shouldn’t.
Your dog maybe thinks she’s covering up for your baby?
It’s just a case of training her not to do it (I know, easier said then done), try and distract her when you are changing your baby’s nappy.
We are absolutely amazed at how many dogs’ eating babies poo. questions there have been on here!!! Basically, if you have to ask the question then you obviously think its not normal! Wild dogs, as with all wild animals, eat their pups poo to prevent attacks by predators but, please!!, it is gross! We think that if your border collie is close with your daughter (on an emotional level) she possibly views her as being hers and is behaving instinctively. It is not acceptable behaviour and you need to put a stop to it. Do you really want your dog to lick your daughter after its done that!
IT’S BECAUSE YOUR CHILD’S DIGESTIVE SYSTEM IS SO YOUNG, IT CAN BARELY PROCESS WHAT FOOD YOUR CHILD IS EATING, THEREFORE IT’S COMING OUT IN PRETTY MUCH THE SAME FORM THAT IT WENT IT.
THE DOG STILL THINKS IT’S FOOD.
All dogs do that…i think they like the smell. It’s probably the same reason they eat their barf and roll in dead things. It’s the reason they’re animals!
Because a dog’s sense of smell is so strong, its probably due to the undigested milk that was mixed with the waste. The best perfume are derived from musk which skunks secrete.
There is a strong case of reasoning about all these sayings that the dog eats other babies/or what ever’s poo. It is caused by shortage of Multivitamins in the dog. Try to go first to a good dog pet shop, and state your case and say have you got any Vitamins for my dog to take as food. Yes there is! and you must start by giving the dog that Vitamin as it says on the label. One dose is not enough, you have to keep on giving the dog those pills like vitamins for two months and than diagnose it by seeing if it goes back to the old habit.
I am saying this from experience. You see I had an old English Sheepdog, and it used to pick up its own dried up droppings. Till I asked the family breeder and they recommended the above. It stopped it. Try it and see. It is cheaper than going to the Vet who would give the same thing at an extra charge. Let us know how you get on or how the dogs gets on.

I think it is because she is a female dog. If she had pups she would eat their poo. I have heard of other female collies doing this – eating the the children’s poo that is
