1) Which of these names sounds the best-
- Rescuing Dogs in need

or Your own Idea
2) The Logo
- Fancy and Script writing.
- Plain Straight forward Times new Roman
or Your own idea
3) How much would you be willing to spend on a rescued dog (baring in mind it will be Vaccinated, Microchipped, Flead, Ticked and Wormed
4) How much would you spend on us looking after your dog while you are on holiday, Baring in mind we will supply the food you normally fed your dog, heated kennels, Take them for daily walks as much as you would. Also if they are on any medication we will do that as well for you.
Thank you to all who completes this Research for us. It is Very much apriciated.
We are in England, and its not a school project has we are 19 and 17 and my G.F is studying Animal Mangment to get the Skills she needs. Thanks
Thanks to all that answer, but this is directed to HUGO, of course we know about the business plans and alll that stuff its just not really something i would get people on an Internet forum to answer for me, my girlfriend has been working in dog rescue and kennels for a Very long time and also studying Animal Managment course at a National Diploma level. We are also meeting with Business Advisors and people who can point us in the right direction…. I didnt feel that i really had to put all the business side of things as part of the question, cos i know thats not going to be a question in a Market Research poll which this basically is. Its basically what people want from it, like what would be more appropriate for them. We are also friends with many dog rescue workers in our area so we have there support and knowledge. Thanks for Answering though

Choose a name that is specific to the area your in, it gives people a better idea of where the kennel is situated. Our closest one is called woodlands as its set on the edge of dartmoor, it needs to be something people will stop to look at. Keep it short but make it memorable.
A logo should be simple but bold, easy to read lettering and a simple design. Choose a colour theme and base what you have on the colours you choose. Times new roman is a little boring and to business like. choose something thats easy to read but has a bit of character.
Most dog homes charge about £70 for a mongrel and £100 for pedigree. I personaly don’t see how they can charge more for a pedigree, there both given the same care and there both dogs. In my opinion oyu hsould charge the same price whether mongrel or pedigree.
I don’t use dog kennels, our dog was looked after by family members, so i don’t know on that one!

i think its a great idea. however if this is ur first business i would be tempted to say try one idea or the other. to have both a rehoming side and a kennel side is going to be very time consuming. people may be reluctant to take their much loves pet somewhere where they will have to see unloved animals ( i know ur going to be rehoming but its still sad to see!)
also if u go for the kennel idea how about not just overnight stayers but daytime stayers as wel for people who work full time and charge them half the amount? u could also offer a transport service to pick up pooches from their houses depending on where u were situated.
from memory i think we paid about £12 a night for our dog when he was put in kennels for the week. although we had a horrible expereience where they cut his nails while we were away and made him bleed…since then he hates having his nails clipped
for a resued dog u didnt say if u were in the uk or not. somewhere like the RSPCA charge £70-£100 i think for a dog which will be the same as urs Vaccinated, Microchipped, Flead, Ticked and Wormed.
good luck with everything!!!!!! i would love to be doing the same thing!

1) wallers rescue dogs and kennels
2) straight forward plain and simple so it doesnt look too flashy
3) im in the uk and i have brought a puppy and an adult dog from a rescue centre and i paid £80 both times, so i wouldnt go over £90
4) for bording for the week i’d be willing to pay £105… that is equal to £15 a day for 7 days which i think is reasonable, it doesnt cos anyone £15 a day to look after a dog but for bording thats fine
good luck with your venture and i hope it works out for both of u.. there will be some hard times but with some determintation u can do it.. GOOD LUCK!!!!

It sounds like you have very good intentions here but I would strongly look into this a lot further before setting anything up. Having worked in rescue, I know the day to day running, as well as problems you may encounter can be pretty immense.
Would you be neutering your dogs before rehoming them? As a rescue, this would be a responsible thing to do to prevent further unwanted litters and therefore increasing stray/unwanted pet numbers. What would happen if a dog you rehomed needs returning back to you because of aggression to either people or dogs? How would you raise the funds to run the rescue and be able to afford veterinary treatment, heating, food etc? Do you and your GF have the knowledge to help new owners or be able to assess dogs correctly to ensure they go to the right home?
Deciding to run a rescue is a massive responsibility and certainly not one to undertake lightly. Unfortunately there are many more important factors to be considered apart from the name of the rescue. Why not get some experience working within an established rescue for a few years to build up knowledge and see whether this is really what you want. Too many ‘rescues’ open up with the owner not really understanding the full commitment and in these cases, aren’t any help to the dogs they are supposed to be rescuing.

Below are some websites for Kennel owners and people in the pet industry it should help you get a better handle on what to expect and what people want from a pet care giver.

I think this sounds like such a fantastic idea. Here are my answers:
1) I like Waller’s Rescue Dogs and Kennel – you can use Helping dogs in need as your strap line underneath
2)I think plain and modern e.g. Verdana
3) up to around £200
4) £20 a day
Good luck

1) Which of these names sounds the best-
I prefure Waller’s Rescue Dogs and Kennel but think you could also use Helping Dogs in need sa a slogan
2) Fancy writing for the name and smaller plain simple text for the slogan.
3) how much will the cost of the care and food for a mounth add upto?
about £80 to £150. (see what rescues near u charge)
4) for this i would call up some bording kennels in your area and ask there rates so that yours can be competative with heres.
Also dont forget to de a website, it will help dogs find homes quicker as people wont have to leave there homes to view your dogs,
Good Luck

1) Which of these names sounds the best
Waller’s Rescue Dogs and Kennel
2) The Logo
Plain Straight forward Times new Roman
3)How much would you be willing to spend on a rescued dog
max 150 for a ped 90 for a mongrel
4) around £10 per day but would pay more if the dog was in the house.
good luck and make sure you do house visits and remeber when dogs come in they could have all types of health problems which you would be responsible for in negelected dogs this could run into thousands of pounds! so think carefully weather you could cover these costs.

I think your hearts are in the right place but I wonder if you have really thought this through? The premises you will need will be quite extensive and therefore not cheap and also this type of operation has to have planning permission and be licenced by the local authority. You are likely to have objections raised by your neighbours and this could sink your venture before it starts. You and your partner cannot sustain this operation 24/7 you will need staff, once you get into this your costs will begin to rise. You will be into NI and PAYE and all sorts. How are you going to finance all this, I see no mention of business plans being in place, but I do see concern about trivial matters such as what font to use on the logo. I sincerely wish you both well with your venture but if it all goes pair shaped after a few months it won’t only be you and your GF who will suffer, the dogs will as well.
January 23rd, 2009 at 1:00 am
Before you get any more bright ideas do you realise that you would need a licence from the local authority?
This refers to Chapel-en-le-Frith,but all local authorities in UK will have the same rules
This kind of work needs more than dedication–lots and lots of money!!

1. Waller’s Rescue Dogs and Kennel
It tells exactly what you will be doing.
2. You need to be careful with fancy fonts to make sure they are still clear and legible. Remember, people are probably going to be seeing your sign while drive by quickly. You don’t have to go as plain as Times New Roman but just be careful and make it big.
3. $50-$100
4. $20-$50 a day based on needs and animal-if keeping cats too
I would definitely do a poll in your neighborhood though to be sure.
